Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels: Slot Overview

If you’re partial to throwing shapes amidst crowds of sweaty, bopping people at a rave but lack the energy and would prefer to comfortably kick back to gamble, then we might have an option for you. Titled Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels, it’s a follow-up to another of developer Play’n GO‘s dance-themed online slots, Spinnin’ Records Into the Beat, which just so happened to be a reskin of Stepping Diamonds. Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels doesn’t appear to be a reskin; on the contrary, it’s quite original, as it goes about mixing a level-up travel itinerary with associated features.

Where Into the Beat looked like a massive party from the future with big screens, and a cyborg DJ, Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels is a smaller event. The artist in this game world has still pulled in a sizable crowd, but in general, the setting is lower tech, more intimate than its older sibling slot. It’s an interesting move, since casino game makers generally pull out the stops to make follow-ups and sequels bigger than those that preceded them. In fact, Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels looks positively tiny at first, when its diminished 3×2 gaming grid appears on screen, but this is a game that progresses through 4 levels, with the gaming grid getting bigger and fuller with each step. At the final level, Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels’ max win is reachable, which, oddly, is smaller than its older sibling’s top number.

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels progresses through 4 levels, and each level is played on a different-sized gaming grid. The precise dimensions are covered below in the features section. Bet selection is broader, where the choices range from a minimum stake of 5c per spin up to a maximum of $/€100. Raving Reels is slightly less volatile than Into the Beat with a 5 out of 10, medium volatile math model, though the highest of the five RTP configurations remains the same at 96.2%.

Pay symbols which may hit on the grid depend on the level currently active. The full list of possible pay symbols includes 10-A ranks, tickets, slap bracelets, inflatable flamingos, a character holding a boom box, and a female character. At level 4, when the grid is at its largest size, a 5 OAK royal win pays 2x-4x the bet, while premiums pay 8x-20x the bet. Wilds are present on all reels, replacing any regular pay symbols to complete winning lines, or making wins of themselves worth up to 30x for 5 OAK in level 4.

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels: Slot Features

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels slot – respins

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels has four different levels that can be unlocked by performing various deeds. Pressing the travel button lets players switch between any of the unlocked levels.

  • Level 1 Cyber – played on a 3×2, 2 payline grid with 6 different symbols. Respins are triggered by landing at least two wild symbols, and wilds are sticky for respins. Landing a wild during a respin grants another respin. Respins can retrigger up to 3 times (4 respins max). Trigger respin 5 times and the next level is unlocked.
  • Level 2 Tropic – played on a 3×3 grid with 5 paylines and 8 different symbols. The respin feature is present, as are Chest symbols. Respins can retrigger up to 6 times (7 respins max). Landing a Chest symbol on reel 2 awards 20x the bet. Hitting a bonus Chest symbol three times unlocks level 3.
  • Level 3 Gravity – played on a 4×3, 10 payline grid with 10 different symbols. The respin feature is triggered by landing 3+ wilds, and can be retriggered up to 8 times (9 respins max). Chest symbols may land on reels 2 or 3, and landing 2 of them awards 20x or 60x the bet. Land 2 bonus Chest symbols two times to level up.
  • Level 4 V.I.P. – played on a 5×3, 10 payline grid with 12 different symbols. Respins trigger with 4+ wilds, and can retrigger up to 10 times (10 respins max). Scatters may land on reels 2, 3, and 4, and 3 scatters in view trigger 5 free spins. Wilds stick in place during free spins, and each landed scatter awards +1 free spin up to 40. Wild symbols expand on their reels during free spins.

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels: Slot Verdict

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels dares to be different, but at times it was hard to visualise the sort of gambler it’s trying to attract. Certainly, not punters who want to be dropped right into the thick of things, and be bombarded by highly volatile mathematics, while huge potential is dangled for those who can make it out the other side. An appreciation for a quest-style slot which doesn’t lay its most potent features out from the get-go will help, where patience may be required to unlock higher levels. Not that the quest seemed particularly challenging, but there is no telling exactly how long users will be stuck at one level, waiting for the requisite number of trigger events to occur. At least the decor is upbeat.

Then again, the decor’s not as adrenalised as Spinnin’ Records Into the Beat, though that’s personal preference, and Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels is weaker in other ways, too. Players who are laser-focused on going after the top 3,000x the bet win (1,000x less than it’s predecessor if anybody was wondering), then they’ll have to unlock every level, because as the paytable states, the max win may be reached at level 4. Some may wonder why, if that is the case, would anyone want to travel back to lower unlocked levels, and it’s a pertinent question. Chest symbols only appear in levels 2 and 3, though their value is limited. Maybe the vibe of Cyber, Tropic, or Gravity is irresistible for some people? Seems a stretch.

Spinnin’ Records Raving Reels does things a bit differently, it’s got a free wheelin’ party thing going on, but reaching level 4 seems like starting from baseline in a mediocre slot, traveling back to previous levels feels a bit pointless, and to top it off the game packs less grunt than the previous Spinnin’ Records slot.
